Located in the Moroccan province of Al Haouz at the end of a 17 km track at 2000 meters high, the village of Tizgui shelters the existence of 1380 villagers. Dangerous and constantly threatened by falling rocks, the track forces the villagers to live a self-managed lifestyle. September, 8th 2023, the earthquake plunged the village into a state of deep vulnerability: between survival in the present and the uncertainty of the future. The sense of mutual aid and resourcefulness illustrate the villagers' resilience, to ensure that life continues in the best conditions attainable.
Although the insecurity has increased over the last seven months, the villagers are adapting and working hard to cope with the fragility of everyday life. All men are pulling together to manage the delivery of basic necessities: foodstuffs, building materials and bottles of gas. Women support each other in managing household tasks and looking after the animals. Each one looks after the health of her family and each other as best she can. They are the ones who take care of childbirth and the healthy development of newborn babies. Women show empathy in the face of the cycle of births and deaths, and the stress of life in the tents for mothers and their babies. All of them know that, faced with the mental burden of maintaining life in a home that no longer exists, sisterhood can make all the difference.
