Circle, a slum area nestled in the heart of Accra, has been a place of intrigue for me since April 2023. Initially drawn to capturing the portraits of women, my aim was to explore their interconnectedness and weave a narrative through their shared experiences.

What began as a simple photographic endeavor evolved into a profound exploration of beauty and tattoo culture as coping mechanisms within the community. Amidst the harsh realities of daily life, I witnessed these women infuse an "extra" humanity into their existence, using beauty and body art to communicate their innermost hopes and dreams.

This photography project delves deep into the symbolism of beauty and tattoos within Circle. I tried to unravel a tapestry of meaning and identity etched into the skin of its residents. It serves as a testament to their aspirations and resilience in front of adversity.
