Cédrick-Isham Calvados, known by the pseudonym "Cédrick-Isham," is a self-taught photographer who effortlessly navigates between words and images. Starting out as a young rapper, he ventured into the realms of audiovisual production and journalism, contributing to radio broadcasts and working as a freelance journalist for France-Antilles in 2004.
In 2013, Cédrick-Isham's journey took a new turn as he immersed himself in the world of photography. His series "La Guadeloupe, mon visage" (Guadeloupe, My Face) stands as a testament to his deep connection with his homeland, capturing the cultural richness of Guadeloupe through a series of poignant portraits. This project served as a launching pad for his subsequent ventures into documentary production.
From photojournalism documenting significant events such as the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Guadeloupe and Dominica in 2017 (featured in AFP and The New York Times), to filmmaking with documentaries like "Parce qu’on vient de loin" (Because We Come from Far) in 2022 and "Là-bas. Un peu plus loin" (There. A Bit Further) in 2024 (screened at the YABISI SERIES—Cri de Femmes festival in Guadeloupe), Cédrick-Isham's work spans a diverse range of mediums, each one a poignant exploration of the human experience.
In addition to his visual storytelling, Cédrick-Isham has also made a mark in the world of literature. His upcoming book, "Les gens de l’horizon" (The People of the Horizon), slated for release in September 2024, promises to be a compelling addition to his body of work.
Through his lens and his words, Cédrick-Isham invites us to delve into the heart of Guadeloupean culture, offering glimpses of its vibrancy, resilience, and beauty. With each project, he continues to inspire and provoke thought, leaving an indelible impression on those who encounter his work.
